Ecr family regulatory small membrane protein

Ecr, as described in the genus Enterobacter, is a small membrane protein predicted to span the inner membrane. It was found to modulate expression of PhoP, part of the PhoP-PhoQ two component system, which in turn induces the arnBCADTEF operon, leading to modification of LPS and conferring elevated resistance to colistin. The form described in PMID:31169899 (WP_048029797.1), at 72 amino acids in length, is aberrant compared with the typical length for the majority of family members, about 46 residues.
