Rnf-Nqr domain containing protein

This is a family of integral membrane proteins including Rhodobacter-specific nitrogen fixation (rnf) proteins RnfA and RnfE [1] and Na+-translocating NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (Na+-NQR) subunits NqrD and NqrE. [1]. 9492268. Overexpression in Escherichia coli of the rnf genes from Rhodobacter capsulatus--characterization of two membrane-bound iron-sulfur proteins. RnfABCDGE type electron transport complex subunit E

The six subunit complex RnfABCDGE in Rhodobacter capsulatus encodes an apparent NADH oxidoreductase responsible for electron transport to nitrogenase, necessary for nitrogen fixation. A closely related complex in E. coli, RsxABCDGE (Reducer of SoxR), reduces the 2Fe-2S-containing superoxide sensor SoxR, active as a transcription factor when oxidized. This family of putative NADH oxidoreductase complexes exists in many of the same species as the related NQR, a Na(+)-translocating NADH-quinone reductase, but is distinct. This model describes the E subunit.

electron transport complex subunit E

electron transport complex subunit E is part of a membrane complex involved in electron transport; such as RsxE, which is required to maintain the reduced state of SoxR, and RnfE, which is required for nitrogen fixation
