    S1 RNA-binding domain-containing protein

The S1 domain occurs in a wide range of RNA associated proteins. It is structurally similar to cold shock protein which binds nucleic acids. The S1 domain has an OB-fold structure. Structure and an extension of S1 family. [1]. 9008164. The solution structure of the S1 RNA binding domain: a member of an ancient nucleic acid-binding fold. Bycroft M, Hubbard TJ, Proctor M, Freund SM, Murzin AG;. Cell 1997;88:235-242. (from Pfam)

    30S ribosomal protein S1

30S ribosomal protein S1 is required for translation of most natural mRNAs except for leaderless mRNA; it binds mRNA upstream of the Shine-Dalgarno (SD) sequence and helps it bind to the 30S ribosomal subunit

    30S ribosomal protein S1

Involved in binding to the leader sequence of mRNAs and is itself bound to the 30S subunit; autoregulates expression via a C-terminal domain; in most gram negative organisms this protein is composed of 6 repeats of the S1 domain while in gram positive there are 4 repeats; the S1 nucleic acid-binding domain is found associated with other proteins
