The acid phosphatase AphA belongs to the haloacid dehalogenase (HAD) superfamily of hydrolases. AphA from E. coli has been characterized. This family was previously described as the "class B non-specific bacterial acid phosphatase" (B-NSAP) family, and noted to be secreted and to have a broad substrate range.
