The goal of this study is to research survival mechanisms in extremophiles from the Atacama Desert in Chile. 0102A, 0209A, and 0909A were isolated from Atacaminian soil in 2022. Based on 16s rRNA gene sequencing, all isolates are Bacillus species. The Bacillus genus consists of Gram-positive, rod shaped bacteria that are widely found in soil. Members of this genus form robust biofilms which may aid bacterial survival in the harsh conditions of the desert.
