proteobacterial sortase system peptidoglycan-associated protein; A newly defined histidine kinase (TIGR03785) and response regulator (TIGR03787) gene pair occurs exclusively in Proteobacteria, mostly of marine origin, nearly all of which contain a subfamily 6 sortase (TIGR03784) and its single dedicated target protein (TIGR03788) adjacent to to the sortase. This protein family shows up in only in those species with the histidine kinase/response regulator gene pair, and often adjacent to that pair. It belongs to the pfam00691 domain family, which is the peptidoglycan-associated region of flagellar motor protein MotB, OmpA (whose N-terminal region forms an outer membrane beta barrel), and peptidoglycan-associated lipoprotein Pal.
