PTS glucitol/sorbitol transporter subunit IIC forms the translocation channel and contains the specific substrate-binding site of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransferase system (PTS), a major carbohydrate active transport system that catalyzes the phosphorylation of incoming glucitol/sorbitol substrates concomitantly with their translocation across the cell membrane
