enoyl-CoA hydratase/isomerase family protein similar to enoyl-CoA hydratase, which catalyzes the second step in the beta-oxidation pathway of fatty acid metabolism, the syn-addition of a water molecule across the double bond of a trans-2-enoyl-CoA thioester, resulting in the formation of a beta-hydroxyacyl-CoA thioester| LytR-CpsA-Psr (LCP) family protein is implicated in the attachment of anionic polymers to cell wall peptidoglycan in bacteria

Many of these play important roles in fatty acid metabolism. In addition to a conserved structural core and the formation of trimers (or dimers of trimers), a common feature in this superfamily is the stabilization of an enolate anion intermediate derived from an acyl-CoA substrate. This is accomplished by two conserved backbone NH groups in active sites that form an oxyanion hole.
