T3SS regulon translocated regulator ExsE family protein ExsE, through protein-protein interaction, serves in a regulatory cascade that modulates the role of ExsA, a transcriptional activator of Pseudomonas aeruginosa's type III secretion system (T3SS) regulon. ExsE itself is a substrate for translocation (i.e. removal) by the T3SS system, providing feedback that modulates expression of secretion system genes. Homologs found in multiple species of Aeromonas and Photorhabdus may be functionally equivalent. Note that VP1702 from Vibrio parahaemolyticus, given the same gene symbol and ascribed an equivalent function, appears unrelated in sequence.
