The insect pathogenic Gram-positive Bacillus thuringiensis secretes immune inhibitor A, a metallopeptidase, which specifically cleaves host antibacterial proteins. A homolog of immune inhibitor A, PrtV, has been identified in the Gram-negative human pathogen Vibrio cholerae.
