This family contains NADPH-dependent flavin reductase and oxygen-insensitive nitroreductase. These enzymes are homodimeric flavoproteins that contain one FMN per monomer as a cofactor. Flavin reductase catalyzes the reduction of flavin by using NADPH as an electron donor. Oxygen-insensitive nitroreductase, such as NfsA protein in Escherichia coli, catalyzes reduction of nitrocompounds using NADPH as electron donor.
