nucleotide-binding domain (NBD) of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine kinase (NAGK) and similar proteins
NAGK (EC 2.7.1.59), also called GlcNAc kinase, catalyzes the phosphorylation of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (GlcNAc) derived from cell-wall degradation, yielding GlcNAc-6-P. Members of this subfamily belong to the kinase (ROK) family, a group of proteins that have sugar kinase and/or transcriptional repressor activities.
