Genomic and Transcriptional Characterisation of Carbapenem and Colistin Resistance Mechanisms in Klebsiella pneumoniae

(Submitter supplied) The transcriptional, epigenomic, and genomic profiles of K. pneumoniae isolates were characterised to identify novel colistin and carbapenem resistance mechanisms. The genomic DNA and total RNA of the isolates were isolated and sequenced on PacBio.

Inactivation of AdeABC and AdeIJK efflux pumps elicits specific non-overlapping transcriptional and phenotypic responses in Acinetobacter baumannii

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: In this study, we analyzed the contributions of AdeABC and AdeIJK in antibiotic resistance and growth physiology of the two MDR strains, AYE and AB5075. Methods: To further characterize the functional interactions between AdeABC and AdeIJK, we carried out RNAseq analysis of the exponential AB5075 and its single and double efflux knockout cells. High quality total RNA was further processed by removing 23S and 16S rRNAs using the MicrobExpress bacterial mRNA enrichment kit. more...

The primary transcriptome of Acinetobacter baumannii ATCC 17978

(Submitter supplied) Transcriptomics by RNA-seq provides unparalleled insight into bacterial gene expression networks, enabling a deeper understanding of the regulation of pathogenicity, mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, metabolism, and other cellular processes. Here we present the transcriptome architecture of Acinetobacter baumannii ATCC 17978, a species emerging as a leading cause of antimicrobial resistant nosocomial infections. more...

Mucin Acts as a Nutrient Source and a Signal for the Differential Expression of Genes Coding for Cellular Processes and Virulence Factors in Acinetobacter baumannii

(Submitter supplied) The capacity of Acinetobacter baumannii to persist and cause infections depends on its interaction with abiotic and biotic surfaces, including those found on medical devices and host mucosal surfaces. However, the extracellular stimuli affecting these interactions are poorly understood. Based on our previous observations, we hypothesized that mucin, a glycoprotein secreted by lung epithelial cells, particularly during respiratory infections, significantly alters A. more...
