Forebrain neuronal subtypes

Analysis of 12 distinct neuronal subpopulations from 5 regions of the adult forebrain. Results identify highly heterogeneous expression profiles that likely underlie the fundamental differences observed between neuronal classes and between glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons within a given class.

(Submitter supplied) The mammalian forebrain is a tissue of stunning complexity comprised of numerous regions each containing many distinct cell types that differ in their intrinsic and synaptic physiology, morphology and connectivity. These differences are likely conferred by differential gene expression, but the extent and nature of cell type specific gene expression is largely unknown. Application of a translational profiling approach for the comparative analysis of CNS cell types.

As demonstrated in the accompanying paper, Translating Ribosome Affinity Purification (TRAP), permits comprehensive studies of translated mRNAs in genetically defined cell populations following physiological perturbations.
