slbo mutant migratory cells of the ovary

Analysis of slbo mutant border and centripetal migratory cells in the ovary. SLBO, a C/EBP family transcriptional activator, is required for the switch from stationary to migratory behavior. Results identify genes involved in cell migration and downstream targets of SLBO.

Whole genome gene expression profiles of migratory cells in the Drosophila ovary

(Submitter supplied) Cell migration contributes to normal development and homeostasis as well as to pathological processes such as inflammation and tumor metastasis. Previous genetic screens have revealed a few major signaling pathways that govern follicle cell migrations in the Drosophila ovary, several of which elicit transcriptional responses. However few downstream targets of the critical transcriptional regulators, such as the C/EBP homolog SLBO, have been identified. more...

Expression data from wild type and ttk^twk mutant whole ovaries

(Submitter supplied) Epithelial tube morphogenesis requires precise orchestration of cell signaling, shape, migration, and adhesion. Follicle cells in the Drosophila ovary form epithelial tubes, the lumens of which act as molds for the eggshell respiratory filaments, or dorsal appendages (DAs). The Tramtrack69 (TTK69) transcription factor controls DA lumen volume and shape by promoting tube expansion; the tramtrack mutation twin peaks (ttk^twk) reduces TTK69 levels late in oogenesis, inhibiting DA tube expansion. more...

Expression profiling in the Drosophila eye reveals unexpected repression of Notch signaling by the JAK/STAT pathway

(Submitter supplied) Although the JAK/STAT pathway regulates numerous processes in vertebrates and invertebrates through modulating transcription, its functionally-relevant transcriptional targets remain largely unknown. With one jak and one stat (stat92E), Drosophila provides a powerful system for finding new JAK/STAT target genes. Genome-wide expression profiling on eye discs in which Stat92E is hyperactivated, revealed 584 differentially-regulated genes, including known targets domeless, socs36E and wingless. more...

Gene expression profiles of migrating cell types Drosophila embryogenesis

(Submitter supplied) Cell migration is an instrumental process that ensures cells are properly positioned to support the specification of distinct tissue types during development. To provide insight, we used fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) to isolate two migrating cell types from the Drosophila embryo: caudal visceral mesoderm (CVM) cells, precursors of longitudinal muscles of the gut, and hemocytes (HCs), the Drosophila equivalent of blood cells. more...

Gliogenesis in Drosophila

(Submitter supplied) In Drosophila, the glial cells missing (gcm) gene encodes a transcription factor that controls the determination of glial versus neuronal fate. In gcm mutants, presumptive glial cells are transformed into neurons and, conversely, when gcm is ectopically misexpressed, presumptive neurons become glia. Although gcm is thought to initiate glial cell development through its action on downstream genes that execute the glial differentiation program, little is known about the identity of these genes. more...

Drosophila Myb-MuvB/dREAM (ChIP-chip data)

(Submitter supplied) Myb-MuvB (MMB)/dREAM is a nine subunit complex first described in Drosophila as a repressor of transcription, dependent upon E2F2 and the RBFs. Myb, an integral member of MMB, curiously plays no role in the silencing of the test genes previously analyzed. Moreover, Myb plays an activating role in DNA replication in Drosophila egg chamber follicle cells. The essential functions for Myb are executed as part of MMB. more...

Heatshock otd / OTX2

(Submitter supplied) The homeobox genes of the orthodenticle (otd)/Otx family play conserved roles in embryogenesis of the head and brain. Gene replacement experiments show that the Drosophila otd gene and orthologous mammalian Otx genes are functionally equivalent, in that overexpression of either gene in null mutants of Drosophila or mouse can restore defects in cephalic and brain development. This suggests that otd and Otx genes can control a comparable subset of downstream target genes in either organism. more...

Genome-Wide Identification of Direct Targets of the Drosophila Retinal Determination Protein Eyeless

(Submitter supplied) The discovery of direct downstream targets of transcription factors (TFs) is necessary for understanding the genetic mechanisms underlying complex, highly regulated processes such as development. In this report, we have used a combinatorial strategy to conduct a genome-wide search for novel direct targets of Eyeless (Ey), a key transcription factor controlling early eye development in Drosophila. Like many other TFs, little is known for Ey direct downstream targets. more...
