Expression data from Burkholderia multivorans ATCC 17616 wild-type and Bmul_2557 (ldhR) gene deletion mutant

(Submitter supplied) Within this work we identified and characterized gene Bmul_2557 (ldhR) of B. multivorans ATCC 17616, a bacterial species associated with chronic respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis patients. LdhR belongs to the LysR-type family of transcriptional regulators and its deletion from the B. multivorans genome affected considerably the formation of planktonic cellular aggregates and surface-attached biofilms.

Expression data from Burkholderia multivorans mucoid and nonmucoid isolates

(Submitter supplied) Burkholderia multivorans comprises opportunistic bacteria infecting hosts such as cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. Bcc long-term infection of CF patient airways has been associated with emergence of phenotypic variation including the mucoid-to-nonmucoid colony morphotype. Here we studied three Burkholderia multivorans clonal isolates (mucoid D2095 (BM11L), and nonmucoid D2214G and D2214P) and a laboratory nonmucoid variant (BM11L-nmv1) obtained under prolonged stationary phase. more...

Overexpression of a histone-like nucleoid structuring protein in Burkholderia multivorans affects several traits dependent on the cell envelope

(Submitter supplied) Burkholderia cepacia complex bacteria comprise opportunistic pathogens causing chronic respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. These microorganisms produce exopolysaccharides which are considered virulence determinants. Here, we report the isolation of an evolved nonmucoid variant (17616nmv) after the ancestor, Burkholderia multivorans ATCC 17616, was subjected to prolonged stationary phase. more...

Hybridization of Burkholderia multivorans D2095 and D2214 genomic DNA

(Submitter supplied) Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) comprises opportunistic bacteria infecting hosts such as cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. Bcc long-term infection of CF patient airways has been associated with emergence of phenotypic variation. Here we studied two Burkholderia multivorans clonal isolates (D2095 and D2214) displaying different morphotypes from a chronically infected CF patient in order to evaluate traits development during lung infection. more...

Expression data from Burkholderia cepacia IST408 bceE and bceF mutants

(Submitter supplied) The bacterial tyrosine (BY) kinase family comprises the major group of bacterial enzymes endowed with tyrosine kinase activity. We have previously shown that the BceF protein from Burkholderia cepacia IST408 belongs to this BY kinase family and is involved in the biosynthesis of the exopolysaccharide cepacian. However, little is known about the extent of regulation in the cell by this kinase protein. more...

Role and function of Class III LitR, a photosensor homolog from Burkholderia multivorans ATCC 17616 in the regulation of folate production.

(Submitter supplied) The LitR/CarH protein family is a adenosyl B12 (AdoB12)-dependent photoreceptor with DNA-binding activity and its homologs are widely distributed in the genome of diverged bacterial genera. Here, we studied a role and function of a LitR homolog from a Gram-negative soil bacteria Burkholderia multivorans, which has no AdoB12-binding domain. Transcriptome analysis revealed the existence of 19 light-induced genes (folE, cfa, litS, a Photolyase gene phrB2, cryB2) located in the flanking region of litR. more...

The IclR-family regulator BapR controls biofilms formation in B. cenocepacia H111

(Submitter supplied) In Burkholderia cenocepacia H111, the large surface protein BapA plays a crucial role in the formation of highly structured communities, known as biofilms. We have recently demonstrated that Quorum sensing (QS) is necessary for the maximal expression of bapA. In this study we identify a protein from the IclR family of transcriptional regulators that, in conjunction with QS, controls biofilm formation by affecting the expression of bapA. more...

Interbacterial signaling via Burkholderia contact-dependent growth inhibition proteins

(Submitter supplied) In prokaryotes and eukaryotes, cell-cell communication and recognition of self are critical to coordinate multicellular functions. While kin and kind discrimination are increasingly appreciated to shape naturally occurring microbe populations, the underlying mechanisms that govern these interbacterial interactions are insufficiently understood. Here we identify a mechanism of interbacterial signal transduction that is mediated by contact-dependent growth inhibition (CDI) system proteins. more...
