Dermacentor marginatus female adults transcriptome

(Submitter supplied) The Ixodidea tick Dermacentor marginatus is a vector of many pathogens wide spread in Eurasia. Study of gene targets of the tick species provides insight to find novel tick protective antigen for drug development and vaccine targets. To obtain a broader picture of gene sequences and changes in expression level, we aimed to characterize the whole body transcriptome in D. marginatus adult female after engorgement and long-term starvation using RNA-seq. more...

RNA-seq transcriptome analysis of Panax japonicus, and its comparison with other Panax species to identify potential genes involved in the saponins biosynthesis

(Submitter supplied) In this study, we have performed Illumina based RNA sequencing to characterize the transcriptome and expression profiles of genes expressed in 5 tissues of P. japonicus. RNA sequencing and de novo transcriptome assembly for P. japonicus resulted in a total of 135,235 unigenes with 78,794 (58.24%) unigenes being annotated using NCBI-nr database. Transcriptome profile and GO enrichment analysis for 5 tissues of P. more...

Integrating whole blood transcriptomic collection procedures into the current anti-doping testing system, including long-term storage and re-testing of anti-doping samples [Short-term]

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: Recombinant human erythropoietin administration studies involving “omics” approaches have demonstrated a gene-expression signature that could aid detection of blood doping. However, current anti-doping testing does not involve blood collection into tubes with RNA preservative. This study investigated if whole blood in short-term storage could be used for transcriptomic analysis despite lacking RNA preservation. more...

(Submitter supplied) Recombinant human erythropoietin administration studies involving transcriptomic approaches have demonstrated a gene-expression signature that could aid detection of blood doping. However, current anti-doping testing does not involve blood collection into tubes with RNA preservative. This study investigated if whole blood in long-term storage and whole blood leftover from standard haematological testing in short-term storage could be used for transcriptomic analysis despite lacking RNA preservative. more...

A novel approach for human whole transcriptome analysis based on absolute gene expression of microarray data

(Submitter supplied) Background. Although the emergence of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), microarrays remain in widespread use for gene expression analysis in the clinic. There are over 767,000 RNA microarrays from human samples in public repositories, which are an invaluable resource for biomedical research and personalized medicine. The absolute gene expression analysis allows the transcriptome profiling of all expressed genes under the specific biological condition without the need of a reference sample. more...

Targeted single cell expression profiling identifies integrators of sleep and metabolic state

(Submitter supplied) The fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, suppresses sleep in response to acute food deprivation, presumably to forage for food. This process is dependent on a single pair of neurons, termed the Lateral Horn Leucokinin (LHLK) neurons, that secrete the neuropeptide Leucokinin. These neurons signal to insulin producing cells and suppress sleep under periods of starvation. Here, we use single-cell sequencing of LHLK neurons to examine the transcriptional responses to starvation.
