The five homologous CiaR-controlled sRNAs modulate Streptococcus pneumoniae Zn-resistance

(Submitter supplied) Zn and Mn are essential micronutrients for many bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae. While Zn performs vital structural or catalytic roles in certain proteins, in excess, Zn can inhibit Mn uptake by S. pneumoniae and displace, but not functionally replace Mn from key enzymes including superoxide dismutase A (SodA). RNase R Affects the Level of Fatty Acid Biosynthesis Transcripts Leading to Changes in membrane Fluidity

(Submitter supplied) Previous studies on RNase R have highlighted significant effects of this ribonuclease in several processes of Streptococcus pneumoniae biology. In this work we show that elimination of RNase R results in overexpression of most of genes encoding the components of type II fatty acid biosynthesis (FASII) cluster. Physiologic and Transcriptomic Effects Triggered by Overexpression of Wild Type and Mutant DNA Topoisomerase I in Streptococcus pneumoniae

(Submitter supplied) We obtained the topARA mutant that encodes a TopoI enzyme that shows reduced topoisomerase activity compared to the wild type gene (topAWT) and confers resistance to the antibiotic seconeolitsine. Alterations in the gene expression profile produced after overexpression of the wild type or the RA mutant of topA gene were studied. In addition, differential gene expression produced by the DNA gyrase inhibitor novobiocin (NOV) was also studied in cultures overexpressing each of the versions of TopA.
