Summary In this study, we compared the modulation of the transcriptome of human PBMCs by the vitamin D metabolites 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3), 25(OH)D2 and 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3).
 
Overall design PBMCs of a healthy male donor were isolated within one hour after peripheral blood collection and treated for 4, 8 or 24 h either with 1,25(OH)2D3 (0.1, 1 and 10 nM), 25(OH)2D3 (100, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 nM), 25(OH)D2 (100, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 nM) or solvent (0.1% EtOH).
