Treatment protocol |
Tissue from ascending aortic aneurysms from patients undergoing ascending aortic surgery were collected. A portion of the tissue was snap frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at –80oC until RNA extraction.

Biotinylated cRNA were prepared according to the standard Affymetrix protocol from 2 microg total RNA (Expression analysis Technical Manual, 2001, Affymetrix).

Hybridization protocol |
Following fragmentation, 10 microg of cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on GeneChip Human U133A array. GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 400.

GeneChips were scanned using Affymetrix GeneChip Scanner 3000 according to the manufacturer's protocol.

Data processing |
Data analysis was performed using a linear model. The probe level data were normalized using Fastlo (Ballman et al. Bioinformatics 2004; 20:2778–2786) a modified version of cyclic loess normalization (Chu et al. Math Bio 2002;176: 35-51).
