Treatment protocol HL-1 cells were cultured in supplemented Claycomb Media (Sigma-Aldrich) to confluence then electrically stimulated for 24 hr at 300 bpm (approximately 1.5-2 times greater than control).
Growth protocol HL-1 cells were cultured in supplemented Claycomb Medium (Sigma-Aldrich) as previously described. Culture dishes were pre-plated with a sterilized, gelatin/fibronectin-coated coverslip, then seeded with HL-1 cells, typically reaching at least 90% confluency at 96 hr.
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol RNA samples were extracted from control and stimulated cells using the RNAeasy Mini Kit (Animal Cell Protocol, Qiagen). To ensure rigorous quality control, all samples were analyzed by the Vanderbilt Microarray Shared Resource for concentration, purity, and integrity (degradation) using spectrophotometry (NanoDrop ND-1000 UV-Vis Spectrophotometer) and a microfluidic assay (Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer, Agilent Technologies).
