Extraction protocol |
Tumor and non-tumor tissues were obtained and frozen in liquid nitrogen immediately after hepatic resection, and stored in liquid nitrogen until RNA extraction. Total RNA samples were extracted by a phenol-chloroform RNA extraction method.

For each patient, 500 ng of total RNA derived from tumor and non-tumor samples were labeled using miRCURY LNA™ microRNA Power Labeling Kits Hy5

Hybridization protocol |
The labeled samples were individually hybridized onto DNA chip surface, and incubated at 42 ℃ for 16 hours.

Scan protocol |
Washed and dried DNA chip in an ozone-removed environment was scanned using a ProScanArray™ microarray scanner. The obtained microarray images were analyzed using the Genepix Pro™ 4.0 software.

Description |
Total miRNA was spotted on 934 features. We used only human miRNA in our analysis. Therefore, a total of 68 features were already eliminated from the all features on this array.

Data processing |
The median values of the foreground signal minus the local background were represented as feature intensities. All data obtained from microarray experiments were normalized by a quantile normalization method, and filtered.
