Treatment protocol |
Flies were anesthetised with CO2, decapitated and heads were immediately snap frozen in liquid N2.

Growth protocol |
Flies were allowed to develop at 18°C, and newly eclosed flies (0-48 hours) were collected and sacrificed immediately (0 days) or aged for 2 or 14 days at 29°C. The fly food used was standard cornmeal supplemented with yeast and molass. For ageing flies were flipped in fresh vials every 48 hours.

RNA was extracted from 20 fly heads using the RNAgents kit (Promega) according to manifacturer instruction; RNA quantity and quality were assessed by Nanodrop 1000 (Thermo Scientific)

The resulting cRNA was Hybridysed on GeneChip Drosophila Genome Array 2.0. The Genechips were washed and stained in the Affimetrix fluidic station.

Data processing |
The data were normalized using a variance stabilisation protocol on perfect matches only, and summarized using median polish. The algorithms were implemented in Bioconductor 2.8.0, packages vsn (3.16.0) and affy (1.26.1), on a machine running R 2.11.0 compiled for x86_64-apple-darwin9.8.0
