Growth protocol For nutrient deprivation experiments, L. bicolor colonies (grown on cellophane membranes) were started on MMN media for 15 days after which they were transferred to fresh MMN media. T0 samples were harvested immediately in liquid nitrogen.

Extraction protocol RNA extraction was carried out using the RNeasy Plant Mini Kit (Qiagen). Total RNA preparations
were amplified using the SMART PCR cDNA Synthesis Kit (Clontech) according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
