Growth protocol For nutrient deprivation experiments, L. bicolor colonies (grown on cellophane membranes) were started on MMN media for 15 days after which they were transferred onto agar medium
supplemented with the same nutrients used to fertilize our myco-
rrhization experiments (2.5 mM KNO3, 0.8 mM KH2PO4, 1mM
MgSO4x7H2O, 2.3 mM Ca(NO3)2x4H2O, 23 µM H3BO3, 4.6 µM
MnCl2x4H2O, 0.4 ZnSO4x7H2O, 0.09 µM (NH4)2MoO4, 0.18 µM CuSO4x5H2O, 20 µM FeNaEDTA, pH 5.8). Samples were harvested after another 10d in liquid nitrogen.
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol RNA extraction was carried out using the RNeasy Plant Mini Kit (Qiagen). Total RNA preparations
were amplified using the SMART PCR cDNA Synthesis Kit (Clontech) according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
