Growth protocol Sinorhizobium meliloti 1021 was grown to mid-log phase (O.D.660nm 0.3) aerobically at 25°C in LB/MC medium.
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol Total RNA was extracted with TRIzol reagent (Invitrogen) and further purified using a RNeasy Midi kit (Qiagen). DNA was removed by DNase digestion with the RNase-Free DNase set (Takara Bio). RNA quality and concentration was determined by analysis with an Agilent 2100 bioanalyzer.

Hybridization protocol Hybridization was performed by Roche Diagnostics Japan, following their standard operating protocol.

Description This sample is of wild-type Sinorhizobium meliloti 1021. It is the fourth of four biological replicates of wild-type cells with heat shock for 40 min, each from separate cultures.
Data processing The raw data (.pair file) was subjected to RMA (Robust Multi-Array Analysis; Irizarry et al. Biostatistics 4(2):249), quantile normalization (Bolstad et al. Bioinformatics 19(2):185), and background correction as implemented in the NimbleScan software package (Roche NimbleGen, Inc.).
