Treatment protocol Mice were fed normal chow diet (NCD) until they were subjected to 60% HFD for the indicated time periods.
Growth protocol Seven-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were obtained from The Jackson Laboratory and were housed in colony cages in 12-h light/12-h dark cycles. 
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol Epididymal adipopse tissues were chopped and incubated in collagenase buffer. After centrifugation, adipocytes in the supernatant and pelleted stromal vascular cell (SVC) fraction were collected for RNA extraction.
Label biotin
Label protocol Biotinylated cDNA were prepared according to the standard Affymetrix protocol from 300 ng total RNA (GeneChip® WT Terminal Labeling and Controls Kit P/N 901525 1, Affymetrix).
 
Hybridization protocol Following fragmentation, fragmented cDNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on Affymetrix GeneChip® Mouse Gene 1.0 ST Array. The GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450.
Scan protocol GeneChips were scanned using the Affymetrix GeneChip Scanner 3000 7G
Description Short-term HFD
Data processing The Robust Multiarray Average (RMA) algorithm implemented in Affymetrix Expression Console software (version1.3.1) was used to normalize the raw data. Highly expressed genes that showed over 2-fold difference between the signal values of control and test samples were selected for further study.
