Eighteen healthy middle-aged male subjects performed 12 weeks of combined exercise training. Combined exercise training consisted of 2 endurance exercise sessions and 1 resistance exercise session per week. See Meex et al. Experimental procedures of the 12 week combined exercise training intervention study have been previously published (PMID: 20028948) Eighteen healthy middle-aged male subjects (mean age 59.0 ± 0.8, mean BMI 29.7 ± 0.8 kg/m2; average ± SD) participated in this study.

Extraction protocol |
Total RNA was isolated using Trizol and further purified using Rneasy columns. Samples were only included for further analyses in case of intact bands corresponding to 18S and 28S ribosomal subunits and absence of chromosomal peaks or RNA degradation products.
